KCDC's work in remote and First Nations communities is closely related with its distance education initiatives. Building on initiatives by schools, libraries, and CAP sites, we have set up 46 Community Access Centers (CACs) in schools across Northern Saskatchewan through the Headwaters Smart Communities project. Students, teachers, and the general public use these centers extensively for educational and informational purposes. The CACs are the community level foundation for delivery of extended services in the future.

KCDC's role as a regional management organization for First Nations Schoolnet enables us to work with First Nation schools and communities in Saskatchewan and Alberta. Through working with the First Nations, we endeavor to use the program's resources to provide the maximum benefit to First Nations communities.

We are also working with communities under the Broadband for Remote and Northern Development pilot program. We are building a business plan for broadband deployment in Northern Saskatchewan communities in partnership with New North (Saskatchewan Association of Northern Communities).

The Internet is an excellent way to provide information to the world about small communities as well. Visit the communities website, http://communitylink.kcdc.ca. The site provides information for, and about, the communities of Northern Saskatchewan.
